(VOM) Un incipit come Drug War ti setta già nel mood giusto. Che poi la guerra sia per scovare l’ultima vena buona o sconfiggere chissà quale invincibile narco, è un altro discorso. Incuranti di innovare un suono da tempo scolpito nell’immaginario sixties, i White Fangs si prodigano nel mostrare il lato sordido del punk garage, quello in cui vengono ammonticchiati jack rotti, bacchette scheggiate, cadaveri di batteristi inetti presentatisi alle audizioni.

Si fa gran sfoggio di riverbero e amenità gracchianti, con il Terzo Occhio Texano ben spalancato ma mai a discapito della forma canzone, con tutti i crismi semi-eufonici che ne conseguono. A conti fatti, non vi ritroverete tra le mani l’ennesimo clone dei Makers o – che dio me ne scampi – dei Satelliters che furono. Anzi, è probabile non vi ritroverete proprio nulla tra le mani, visto che il vinile ha una tiratura di sole 300 copie, ma la fatica di procurarvelo potrà appagare la sete di genuinità rock. Genuinità che in Midnight Jock corre a briglie sciolte, come nei Mortars d’antan.

Se poi non ne avete avuto abbastanza di queste 10 tracce, procuratevi l’altra loro recente uscita, sempre su Frantic, ovvero il 7” split con i Warm Toy Machine.
